Sport Injuries

Sports injuries can essentially be broken down into two categories. Those attributable to an incident ie a fall, an impact or a sudden increase in force, and those due to a build up of symptoms with a growing persistence often initiated by faulty biomecanics (eg incorrect running shoes) or unfavourable training methods (often accompanying an increase in training volume).

So what can Physiotherapy do for Sports injuries, or symptoms related to participation in an activity?

Effective physiotherapy treatment should be able to;

  • identify what structures are involved in the sports injury,

  • provide accurate information on times required for healing,

  • administer treatment to facilitate a maximally efficient healing process, -provide a graduated rehabilitation programme to return to sport and

  • correct any inefficiencies that exist in an individual’s training and subsequent. performance.
