Low Back Pain

Low back pain is the leading cause of disability and time off work across the Developed World and is a condition that medical practitioners and Physiotherapists treat very regularly; ‘it’s the most common problem we see.’

On a positive note

Most cases of Low back pain have no serious pathological underlying cause and do get better, over 80% have no specifically diagnosed structural dysfunction and this alone supports the fact that low back pain can be generated via a number of complex interactions and factors.

What can Physiotherapy do?

Effective treatment for low back pain should involve a detailed and exhaustive initial assessment which encompasses the physical factors, the lifestyle factors, the cognitive and emotional factors and the neurophysiological factors that present for the individual.

Physical treatment looks to relieve tension in muscles, restore mobility and utilises techniques such as manipulation, massage, acupuncture/ dry needling, postural correction, Pilates and graduated progressive movement practices to get you back on track quickly.

After treatment the client should feel that their pain is validated, that the whole of their presentation is considered (because ONLY this can truly then enable a relevant intervention) and that following treatment, through accurate collaborative education and movement practices, they feel empowered and fully aware of how to ultimately progress independent of therapy
